The Rāmāyaṇam, an Itihāsa of the highest order, is referred as Ādi kāvya, the first poem to have been composed. This is hailed as Rāma’s biography written by Vālmīki during Rāma’s time, and ratified by him. The Rāmāyaṇam has been treated with utmost care by all ācāryas in their famed commentaries. This work of Vālmīki has inspired many poets and dramatists across the sub-continent, and has been trans-created in almost all Bhāratīya languages.
